ARTIST BIO
SASHA GRINNELL

Sasha Grinnell was born and raised in Hinton, Alberta. Being surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains, ever changing seasons, and quite solitude became a deep source of inspiration. Growing up surrounded by nature she developed an early love for the outdoors. Which she later found expression through art.
Pursuing this passion, Sasha attended Red Deer College, where she honed her skills and explored various mediums. Her preferred medium is acrylic paint. Her work often reflects her strong passion and love for nature, music and motherhood being her top inspirations.

Beyond her artistic journey, becoming a parent brought new layers of meaning to her work. Sasha welcomed her son in January 2019. Once in the new groove of motherhood, she had her first solo show ‘Good Enough’ in 2022. The continued experience of raising her son has influenced her art with growth, resilience and the beauty of everyday moments.
Today, Sasha continues to create from her studio. You may recognize Sasha's work from several displays at restaurants, bars and cafes throughout Spruce Grove, Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary. She illustrated four children’s book series - Children’s Words for Living, by Laurie Simpson. Sasha is most well known for her custom pet portraits that have kept her busy most of the year. She completed a massive solo mural in Radium Hot springs at Screamers Ice Cream Café in 2022. Her most current work is currently on display at the Local Refillery in Stony Plain.
Sasha remains dedicated to capturing the harmony between nature, emotion, and her human experience.

GOOD ENOUGH
2022 Art Series

ARTIST STATMENT
‘Good enough’
Is my visual representation of how nothing feels good enough as a mother, partner, friend, artist while suffering through mental and physical illness. It’s about learning to accept and even appreciate the mistakes made and how we change and adapt.
The flowers show how we are always growing, changing, blooming, blossoming, adapting and flourishing in motherhood. Even though I’m in a constant state of self-doubt, feeling clouded, uncertainty and wanting to hide.
The bees are a representation of the community that’s required; my partner, family, friends and medical professionals. Knowing I need to rely on others and that it’s acceptable to ask for help.
